At The Races Modern Slavery Statement 2019

Attheraces Limited (“ATR”) makes this statement for itself and on behalf of its affiliates pursuant to s.54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 (“Act”), detailing the steps we are taking in order to fulfil our responsibility as a business to ensure modern slavery and human trafficking is not taking place within our business or supply chain.

We understand that modern slavery continues to affect and harm millions across the globe, and therefore we need to work with our customers and suppliers in order to mitigate any risk within our business, however small.

Modern slavery encompasses slavery, servitude, forced or compulsory labour and human trafficking. As an organisation, ATR is committed to ensuring that there is no form of modern slavery in our business or in our supply chain. We are committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all of our business relationships, and, where possible, to putting effective systems and controls in place to safeguard the people involved in our business or supply chain.

Our Business

At The Races is a dedicated horse racing channel. Domestic distribution of the TV channel extends to over 14 million UK and Irish homes via digital satellite and cable television. ATR also exports it UK horseracing product to more than 30 countries worldwide.

The organisation has an annual turnover in excess of £36m.

Our Controls and Policies

ATR employs 60 people directly and through recruitment agencies. To mitigate any risk where it comes to those we do not recruit directly, we only use reputable recruitment agencies. We also ensure contracts with our employees include clear terms which protect their rights. We apply our employment practices in line with applicable legislation to ensure that all employees are properly entitled to work in the UK. ATR monitors and controls risk within its business through the operation of a number of policies and procedures, relating to, amongst others, health & safety and bribery and corruption and will provide training on modern slavery to relevant members of staff.

As we operate in an already heavily regulated sector, the risk of modern slavery within our business is very small. Nevertheless, we will continue to monitor and mitigate any risk on an ongoing basis  and would expect suppliers to address any issues of non-compliance with the Act or face termination of their contracts.

Supplier Due Diligence

Our objective is to ensure that our supply chain meets the same requirements as our own business. We will work closely with significant suppliers to create strong relationships and communicate ATR’s expectations of business behaviour.

We expect each entity in the supply chain to, at least, adopt ‘one up’ due diligence on the next link in the chain. Staff are expected to exercise diligence and judgement to ensure that the risk of non-compliance with the Act is minimised and to report concerns and management is expected to act upon them.

Effectiveness in Prevention of Modern Slavery

A review of our ability to effectively mitigate any risks of modern slavery will take place annually, in order to ensure our controls and policies are up to date in relation to the changing demands.

This statement has been approved by the Board of Directors of Attheraces Limited.
